What is DexDataLock™?
DexDataLock™ is a cost effective and advanced, easy-to-use encryption
solution. With this technology, intellectual property and other sensitive
information can be secured on any computer running Windows 98, Windows 2000, and
Windows XP. This revolutionary product, developed by DexIT, protects individuals
and businesses from unknowingly divulging sensitive or commercially secret
information.
Why should I protect documents with DexDataLock™?
When you protect your documents with DexDataLock™ your documents are secured
by a hardware component with unsurpassed security. DexDataLock™ encrypts your
documents, incorporates anti-debugging features and ensures that no one can use
or distribute your documents without your permission.
Which types of DexDataLock™ keys are available?
DexDataLock Personal™
This product has been developed with the forward thinking individual in mind.
Someone who has realized the importance of keeping data protected and the
possible consequences of data (personal or commercial) being accessed by
unauthorized users.
The personal edition consists of:
1 USB HASP key
The encrypt/decrypt software,
License fee - optional (includes technical support via e-mail and upgrades)
DexDataLock Professional™
The professional edition offers the same benefits as the personal edition, but
with the added feature of being able to create up to 5 keys with each containing
5 different user groups. This makes the transfer of sensitive information or
data possible. Files, data and information can now be encrypted and transferred
via disc, network, memory stick etc, but with the knowledge that only the
intended recipient will be able to decrypt the information by using their keys
with the same user groups as per the sender.
The professional edition consists of:
2 USB HASP keys (possibility to purchase and create up to 5 keys)
The encrypt/decrypt software
Administrator software to be able to create up to 5 keys with 5 user groups per
key'
License fee (includes technical support via e-mail and upgrades)
DexDataLock Enterprise™
This edition is aimed at large international corporate companies. Companies that
communicate sensitive information to large numbers of employees and board
members. The concept is the same as with the professional edition, except that
you do not have a limitation on the number of keys you can create and up to 24
different user groups per key. The possibility also exists for customizing the
this edition to include for example biometric integration.
The enterprise edition consists of:
5 USB HASP keys (possibility to create unlimited amounts of keys)
The encrypt/decrypt software o Administrator software to be able to create up to
5 keys with 5 user groups per key'
License fee (includes technical support via telephone and upgrades)
Custom configuration.
Which platforms and operating systems are supported?
DexDataLock™ is a cross-platform key supporting Windows 98, Windows 2000 and
Windows XP.
How does DexDataLock™ protect my documents?
DexDataLock™ protects documents against illegal use, by allowing access of the
protected document only when the key is connected to the computer. DexDataLock™
keys contain a highly secure, impenetrable encryption engine. During runtime,
the protected software sends encrypted strings to DexDataLock™ that decrypts
the strings and produces a response that cannot be imitated. If the response
from DexDataLock™ is correct the document will decrypt and open with the
appropriate program. If DexDataLock™ isn't connected or its response is
incorrect, the document will not decrypt and will not run.
What do I have to do to implement protection with DexDataLock™?
You have to make the connection between your software and the DexDataLock™
key. You can use the DexDataLock™ Encrypt / Decrypt software to protect your
documents by encrypting the files by wrapping them with an impenetrable shell
that checks for the key. This is obtained by using the physical key, a personal
password and user group password. This method provides unmatched security. We
recommend using both passwords for maximum protection.
What is AES and how does it enhance security in DexDataLock™?
DexDataLock™ uses the Rijndael algorithm, which was chosen in October 2000 by
the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as the Advanced
Encryption Standard (AES). Rijndael, a public symmetric algorithm, replaces the
DES algorithm, which was the standard until then.
Are keys stored in the DexDataLock™ memory secured?
In each DexDataLock™ key the memory data is encrypted uniquely. During the
protected application's runtime the DexDataLock™ system decrypts the data when
the application accesses the memory. This ensures that the memory cannot be read
by hardware specialists and keys cannot be transferred from one DexDataLock®™
key to another.
Can I protect more than one document with DexDataLock™?
Yes. You can protect as many documents as you like with a single DexDataLock™
key.
I have forgotten the master password of my DexDataLock™. Is there a way to
reset the device?
No. The DexDataLock™ cannot be reset once it has been configured and there is
no way to reset or change the password if it has been forgotten. In situations
like this we can offer a replacement key at a reduced cost in exchange for the
old one. The new key will be un-configured and will need to be setup before use.
It will also not contain any of the encryption keys of the old device so any
encryption keys must be transferred from the backup DexDataLock™ or
re-requested.
I am having trouble accessing an encrypted file that is shared on another
volume.
There are some limitations to network support in the current version of
DexDataLock™. Please consult the read me file for the current limitations of
network support and what recommendations are made for encryption of network
files.
